Most pregnant women are aware that there are benefits to prenatal exercise, including: lowered chance of c-section, less weight to lose after baby, improved self image, lowered risk of depression, joining in a community of pregnant moms, a healthier placenta and even shorter labors (one of the biggest pluses)! But what many soon-to-be moms may not know is that prenatal exercise actually benefits their unborn baby as well.
In fact, new research reveals that when a woman exercises during pregnancy, her baby may be actively joining in the workout, with the fetal cardiac system growing stronger and healthier all as a result of the workouts.
And this benefit remains even after birth; babies born to mothers who engaged in prenatal exercise were found to have healthier hearts than other infants a full month after delivery!!
Exercise isn’t just about burning calories, it’s more the many great benefits we can derive from a routine exercise program – especially during pregnancy! Our heart is a muscle that needs exercise so why not include baby too.
